Walking the Thresholds...the deal. [17 May 2003|12:03am]
[ music | Various - Hedningarna Toadeater ]

Walking the Thresholds 6

===Now, we are coming up on the last days of pre-reg. I need to give my pre-reg list to the site by then.

===This means, for those that have not sent me registration by then, they will have to pay the much higher price of $75.00 gate fee. My apologies, but if I want to be able to order thing slike porta-pots, i do need some advance idea of who is coming.

===Please contact me as soon as possible if you are coming. I am able to make some accomadations (but not too many...) for folks if I hear within a reasonable amout of time. But i need to get my numbers in soon, and have some degree of fundage in my hands.

===Mote to follow in a few hours and over the weekend....

The official letter [17 May 2003|12:28am]
[ music | Waterbone - Waterchild ]

===Greetings all!

===Walking the Thresholds 6 is about upon us, and we are about to reach the final pre-registration cut-off.

http://www.rialian.com/elvsgath.htm

===People may note that the gate fee has risen significantly. This has been done to hopefully encourage people to register at least a week ahead of time...as I have to order things such as porta-pots...and there is nothing quite so annoying as not having enough of those...(chuckle)

===In the past, I was able to get away with not having my numbers so early...but the gather has gotten large enough that this is no longer really feasable for me. We have always had a lot of people simply show up and pay at the gate at the last minute, and request some financial hardship understanding in their gate fee. And I have been able to eat the cost.

===This year I am unable to do so. If I do not hear from people before the 25th, I cannot put your name on the list of pre-paid folks that I submit to the site...which is being very kind and handling gate registration for me this year.

===Please contact me if you want to discuss your situation. This year I cannot promise that I can be as nice as I have been in the past.

===We are currently at the standard level of pre-reg...and last year I had over 70 people attend, many of whom were at-the-gate.

===I have based my porta-pot estimates on that pre-reg. I cannot change this after the 25th. Please be kind to us all, and pre-reg.

===There is no official meal plan this year. I have had a few people in the community offer to help out so that there can be something...some offers viable, some not. I will be contacting those people by Sunday to start the finalization process for that issue. My own inclination is to get back to the basics of hearth....a kitchen area near the hearth with people volunteering and feeding the people that put in for the hearth. No one at that hearth shall be turned away....offer what you can (honestly).

===Anyone with comments, suggestions, or concerns should feel free to contact me personally.

I am afraid this is true... [17 May 2003|09:04pm]

===Melissa Kaplan has perhaps one of the absolute best pages in regards to most reptiles....in that it has a lot of really good info, and gives a a very good jumping-off point for pretty much anything else you need to research. I consider it required reading for people into reptiles.

===Copied verbatim from : HERE, mostly here for me to gaze at and wonder about my sanity.

===Now, on to the humor:

Lifeskills for Iguana Keepers
Compiled by Melissa Kaplan

Created first by Karla after being trained by her three foster igs, Georgia, Ruby and Lucky:

How to carry a big pan full of sloshing water and iguana poop out to dump it in the yard without spilling it on the floor or yourself.

How to convince your doctor at your yearly physical when he asks about the scratches all over your wrists and arms that you are NOT one of those people that cut themselves and do NOT need to see a therapist (then wondering if he is making speculations about the kind of sexual antics going on in your home!

How to ignore the shapely teenage cashier at the supermarket's smirky little smile as she checks through the seven bags of greens and fresh veggies and then the extra large size bag of double fudge Oreos and New York style cheesecake.

How to convince your husband that the five foot ten pound iguana is not going to eat any of the kids, the dog or his mother (Really honey...they eat LEAVES in the wild!!)

How to instruct the vet on what to say to your husband if he answers the phone when she calls to discuss your iguana's 300.00 ear surgery with you. ("Oh sorry, wrong number" is always good here)

How to convince yourself that you made the right choice as a pet when your $14.99 iguana's equipment and enclosure costs are approaching $500.00 and he/she seems to hate your guts.

Contributions from other Iguana Keepers:

How to spend around $2000 on computer hardware and software, and countless hours of research and programming, just so you can put a bunch of cameras on your iguana, and put him up on the Internet 24/7 so everyone can monitor his every move. This also makes you "less guilty" when you have to leave town for whatever reason, as you can "check in," and see how your iguana is doing. (The iguana, by the way, is totally unfazed by all the excitement.) (Gerry and Cookie)

How to convince your iguana to let you have part of his his room for your storage. (Tiff and Gumba)

How to pack away all your fragile antique glassware and cover your antique buffet with green grass carpet and mount a UVB tube and fixture on it. (Tammy and the Zoo)
